Privacy Policy

Paper Duel is developed by Joni Ruuskanen, operating under the name Backseat Games ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data Paper Duel handles — which is, by design, almost nothing.

The short version

Paper Duel does not require an account, does not use analytics, does not show advertising, and does not contain any chat or messaging feature. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us or to any server we operate.

Your nickname and game data

You can set a nickname and a pencil color for yourself. This information, along with your local win counters, is stored only on your device, using standard local app storage. We never receive it, and it is never uploaded anywhere. Uninstalling the app deletes it permanently.

Local multiplayer, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi

Paper Duel can be played with a second device nearby (for example, another passenger's phone). To find that nearby device, the app may use Bluetooth and/or local Wi-Fi discovery. These are used only to locate and connect to a device that is physically close to you — not to determine, record, or share your geographic location. On Android, the app is built to request Bluetooth scanning permission in a way that does not require location access at all.

During a local match, your nickname and game moves are sent directly to the paired device, over that local connection only. They never pass through a server, because Paper Duel does not currently have one — online play is not part of the app yet.

Purchases

Paper Duel offers an optional one-time purchase to unlock all games. This purchase is handled entirely by Google Play Billing or Apple's App Store — whichever store you downloaded the app from. We never receive or store your payment details, card numbers, or billing address. The store provider processes this according to its own privacy policy (Google, Apple).

Third-party services

Paper Duel does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDK. If this ever changes — for example, if an online play feature is added in the future — this policy will be updated first, and the change will be described here before it ships.

Children's privacy

Paper Duel is designed to be suitable for family and child use. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. The absence of accounts, advertising, analytics, and any communication feature is a deliberate design choice made specifically because the app may be used by children.

Your rights

Because Paper Duel does not transmit or store any personal data on our systems, there is nothing for us to access, export, or delete on your behalf — all of it already lives only on your device, under your control. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its local data in your device settings, removes everything.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — most likely because a new feature (such as online play) is added — we will update this page and change the "last updated" date above.
